Young people increasingly present with significant and complex needs, frequently accompanied by challenging behaviour arising from disability, learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorders, mental health needs and social and emotional trauma.
To address the needs of these young people, Aspire Scotland has a highly effective education team whose experiences span secure, residential and mainstream settings.
The team is led by an Education Manager and an Assistant Education Manager. Teaching staff are supported by educators in photography, art, digital technologies, health and well-being and employability. Additional support for learning is provided on a daily basis by members of the (Edu)care team.
For most young people learning takes place within the learning centre, the surrounding area, a practical technologies hub and Aspire Scotland’s residential services, ensuring that ‘the curriculum includes the totality of experiences which are planned for children and young people through their education, wherever they are being educated.
Where appropriate, young people are supported to attend mainstream schools for some or all of their classroom based education.
